LGBT Groups Ask Unions, Civil Rights Groups For Marriage Campaign Help

Two leading LGBT rights groups are reaching out to unions and other civil rights organizations to push for marriage equality support in the coming months as the Supreme Court considers two cases addressing marriage for same-sex couples.

The Respect for Marriage Coalition, led by the Human Rights Campaign and Freedom to Marry, was established to fight for repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act in Congress. Now, however, the two groups want to expand the mission’s group to fight for “overturning DOMA and securing the freedom to marry nationwide.”

Obama’s Jobs Council Shutting Down Thursday – US News and World Report

A provision in Obama’s executive order establishing the council says it sunsets on Thursday. A White House official said the president does not plan to extend it.

Officials said the president always intended for the council to fulfill its mission and then wind down, and said that Obama would continue to actively engage and seek input from business leaders about ways to accelerate job-creation and economic growth. Among the steps Obama plans to pursue are expedited permits for infrastructure projects, the White House said.

For millionaire athletes, states with highest tax rates may not make the cut | Fox News

“They’re going to have an exodus of people,” said John Karaffa, president of ProSport CPA, a Virginia-based firm that represents nearly 300 professional athletes, primarily in basketball and football. “I think they’ll see some [leave California] for sure. They were already a very high tax state and it’s getting to a point where folks have to make a business decision as well as a lifestyle decision.”

Does Rubio believe that his immigration stance will help him in 2016?

A lot of people are saying that Sen. Marco Rubio from Florida is trying to set himself up for the Republican nomination in 2016, by collaborating with the Democrats on immigration. Sen. Rubio is a young energetic conservative who is about to be led down the path of destruction by trusting the Democratic establishment that has lied in every step in the political debate over the last decade. Promises being made to Sen. Rubio of the same promises that were made to present Reagan on immigration reform. At the time Reagan was told that once the 1 million illegal immigrants were given citizenship the borders would be closed and that would end the problem. The 1 million illegal immigrants turned out to be 3 million legal immigrants any borders were never closed and that is why we have this problem today. The same people that made that promise to Reagan or making that promise to Rubio. They claim there are 11 million illegal immigrants but there are others that are telling us there is many as 20 million.

Many of us who are older than Sen. Rubio remember the previous deception that was perpetrated on Reagan, and if Rubio follows this road he will show us that he is a fool. And if Rubio cannot look back on history and examine what has happened in the past and put it to the present-day scenario than he is showing that he lacks the competence to be president of the United States.

Obama Continues to Violate His Own ‘Stimulus’ Law by Not Releasing Quarterly Reports | The Weekly Standard

Alas, that was the last report we’ve seen.  Never mind that Section 1513 of the “stimulus” legislation, which Obama spearheaded and signed into law, requires the executive branch to submit a new report every three months.  It reads:

“In consultation with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and the Secretary of the Treasury, the Chairperson of the Council of Economic Advisers shall submit quarterly reports to the Committees on Appropriations of the Senate and House of Representatives that detail the impact of programs funded through covered funds on employment, estimated economic growth, and other key economic indicators.”

In other words, the Obama administration is required by law to submit quarterly reports on the “stimulus” through the third quarter of 2013.  By now, it was supposed to have released fourteen such reports.  It has released only eight.  The last one covered the period ending in June 2011.  That’s right — 2011.

Women in Combat Spells Trouble – Linda Chavez – Page 1

Female soldiers experienced three times the evacuation rate of male soldiers. And of those evacuated for medical reasons, a shocking 74 percent were for pregnancy-related issues.

The high rate of pregnancy among female soldiers is one of the best-kept secrets in the military. The various military branches are loath to publicize the figures regarding female soldiers becoming pregnant while deployed. However a study released just this week shows that military women have a higher rate of unplanned pregnancy than the comparable general population — some 50 percent higher. And the unplanned pregnancy rate for deployed women was as high as it was for those serving stateside.

Obama recess appointments unconstitutional – Washington Times

The three-judge panel’s ruling is a major blow to Mr. Obama. The judges ruled that the appointments he made to the National Labor Relations Board are illegal, and hence the five-person board did not have a quorum to operate.

But the ruling has even broader constitutional significance, with the judges arguing that the president’s recess appointment powers don’t apply to “intra-session” appointments — those made when Congress has left town for a few days or weeks. They said Mr. Obama erred when he said he could claim the power to determine when he could make appointments.
